ST. LOUIS -- Exonerated of a rape conviction and freed after serving 23 years in prison, Johnny Briscoe often paused to halt the tears as he spoke at a news conference Thursday.
For years, he had proclaimed he didn't commit the rape, but his appeals fell on deaf ears and his repeated requests for parole were ignored.
