WEST VALLEY CITY -- Taxes in Utah's second-largest city could be going up if City Council members and the mayor approve a slight change to the certified tax rate for the 2010 fiscal year.
The proposed increase from 0.003593 in the 2008-09 tax year to 0.003609 in the 2009-10 amounts to less than half a percentage- point increase. It was triggered after commercial properties in the city appealed their 2008 tax bills, leaving the city about $100,000 short, explained finance director Jim Welch.
