PROVO -- The No. 16-ranked BYU women's volleyball team had a Smith Fieldhouse-record crowd of 4,455 cheering it on Friday night against No. 18 Utah.

Conspicuously absent for the Cougars, however, was star outside hitter Erica Lott, who is suffering from a back injury and did not play. In the end, the defensive-minded Utes overpowered the Cougars, 3-1 (30-24, 30-28, 21-30, 30-18).
