Summary
As we all begin to dig out from the record-breaking after- Christmas storm, we need to review the negatives and positives of how Utah Power responded to this emergency. Kudos and sincere appreciation go to the linemen who worked 24-hour shifts. Raspberries go to Utah Power's response infrastructure. In an emergency situation, it is inhumane to make elderly people wait on hold with Utah Power for 45 minutes or more in the coldest, darkest place of their homes where the only functioning phone is kept.
Typically, the most vulnerable among us do not have access to 21st-century technology or cannot afford the mobile phone charges, thus cell phones are not a feasible solution for everyone. The state of Utah needs to make a monopoly like Utah Power accountable for how it handles these emergency situations.See the full content of this document
