Summary
In response to Carolyn B. Nelson's letter (Readers' Forum, June 29), imagine what it would be like if every candidate for governor went straight to a primary. It is an easy thing to get your name in the race. We would have 100 or more candidates for the Republican nomination. Most would not be "qualified" to lead our state, but you might not know it until it is too late because it is not possible to study 100 people in detail. Most wouldn't even try.
The fire of scrutiny at the convention keeps the "unqualified" out of the race. That is why we had so many wonderful candidates this year.See the full content of this document
