Tolerance Goes Two Ways

Summary

President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles Boyd K. Packer, in an address given at BYU in January 2007, stated: "All the mocking does not come from outside of the church. Let me say that again, all the mocking does not come from outside of the church."

Recent events have spotlighted mocking and finger-pointing, as some advocacy groups holler "tolerance," yet refuse to recognize that tolerance is a two-way avenue. These groups decry freedom of speech -- unless they agree with the speech. Tolerance does not grant a person permission to do wrong, and tolerance does not require anyone to tolerate another's misdeed.
