On the first night they had hometown fans' undivided attention, Jeremy Bonderman and the Detroit Tigers gave them a memorable effort. Bonderman recovered from a shaky start, allowing two runs in 7 2/3 innings, and Magglio Ordonez hit a three-run homer to lead the Tigers past the Boston Red Sox 6-2 Saturday night in Detroit.

The victory, Detroit's second in its last seven games, kept the Tigers 2 1/2 games ahead of Chicago in the AL Central and delighted a sellout crowd a night after the Detroit Pistons were eliminated from the NBA playoffs.
