Summary
Loser: No surprise here but embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich has vowed to fight on, denying he has done anything wrong in the wake of federal corruption charges. Blagojevich is entitled to his day in court, of course. But the people of Illinois are entitled to a governor they trust and support. Blagojevich, with his abysmal public approval ratings, should step aside and let the state move on with important issues, which include appointing a successor to former Democratic senator and President-elect Barack Obama.
Winner: The Canyons School District has yet to open for business but give Superintendent David Doty his due for a proposal that sets high ethical and professional standards for teacher-student interaction. The vast majority of teachers and school employees conduct themselves appropriately with students. However, public confidence in erodes each time there is a new report about teachers engaged in sexual misconduct with students in Utah or elsewhere.
