Summary
It was about a month after I was called as bishop that our family, with a prayer for our safety, headed west on Interstate 15 out of Salt Lake to a family reunion on the coast of California. As we drove, the day dragged on through the hot deserts of central Nevada. I figured it would be a good time to stop in the next town to gas up and take a short break.
As we approached the town of Elko, Nev., that August in 2003, I noticed a large, very black cloud sitting on the ground just west of town. It looked very ominous, almost scary. I decided to have a little fun with the kids as we approached the darkness of the skyline. "Look guys at the horrible storm that is blocking our path. We better pull off the road before it gets us."See the full content of this document
