Am.F. Symphony to Perform Copland's 'Lincoln Portrait'

AMERICAN FORK -- The American Fork Symphony will present the popular "Lincoln Portrait" by Aaron Copland as well as Antonin Dvorak's New World Symphony No. 9 during its winter concert. Terry Hill will serve as conductor.

American Fork Mayor Heber M. Thompson will serve as narrator during "Lincoln Portrait," a moving piece by American composer Copland that pays tribute to the 16th president of the United States. According to Wikipedia.org, Copland was commissioned to create a musical portrait of a prominent American as part of a patriotic war effort in 1942. The narration includes excerpts from Abraham Lincoln's documents, including the Gettysburg Address. Many famous personalities have served as narrators for this piece, including Walter Cronkite, Paul Newman, James Earl Jones and Gregory Peck. Charlton Heston narrated the piece with the Utah Symphony.
