SANDY -- The group that certifies and sanctions Utah police officers wants a stiffer sanction for a former Adult Probation and Parole agent who was heavily armed when he threatened to shoot sheriff's deputies during a standoff at his home.

The Peace Officer Standards and Training Council rejected a recommended three-year suspension of Ray E. Reynoso's law enforcement certification during its quarterly meeting in March. The council instead handed down a four-year suspension, which would require Reynoso to reapply to the state's police academy if he wants to return to law enforcement.
