PROVO -- Recycling may begin at the curb, but putting a soda bottle into a blue bin or bag doesn't instantly save the environment, says an expert who spoke at Brigham Young University.

The cycle of recycling is only complete when a consumer buys something else made from a recycled product, William Carroll Jr., a former president of the American Chemical Society recently told college students during a lecture at BYU.
