Southern Utah's women's basketball team opened its final road trip of the 2004-05 regular season on a sour note as the Thunderbirds dropped a 58-38 decision at Valparaiso Saturday afternoon in Valparaiso, Ind. With the loss, SUU fell to sixth place in the Mid-Continent Conference standings at 6-7 and 10-14 overall, while the Crusaders moved to 16-9 for the season, 10-4 and in second place in conference play.

Southern Utah led 8-4 after the first five minutes of play, but the Crusaders erased that deficit with a 17-4 run, holding SUU scoreless over a span of four minutes twice during that run, to build a 21-12 lead with 4:13 to play in the opening half en route to a 27-19 halftime cushion.
