When former Ute Alex Smith was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with the No. 1 pick in the 2005 NFL draft, he was viewed as nothing less than a can't-miss prospect.
Forget the fact that he started only one full season at Utah. His junior BCS-busting season was so spectacular, Smith was destined for NFL greatness.
