Senate, with Only 4 No Votes, Passes Formal 'Flatter Tax' Plan

With a budget compromise in hand, the Senate passed the formal proposal for a "flatter" tax Friday.

The bill, which passed with only four dissenting votes, still needs to be massaged in order to reduce its current $87 million fiscal note to a $70 million fiscal note, Sen. Curt Bramble, R- Provo, the bill's sponsor, said. The $70 million for an income tax cut was part of the budget compromise reached Thursday by Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. and legislative leaders.
