Summary
Regarding the recent visit of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar to Utah: His appearance was about our federal land-use issues. However, I would like to point out that Salazar is in an appointed position, not an elected one. He has the power to close public land only due to the guilt-driven pressure of our local environmental groups. Oil leases in many parts of our state are closed due to Salazar. Laws such as the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and the Mining Reclamation Act are very powerful. With 60 percent of Utah's land in control of the federal government, why is an appointed non-Utahn dictating our future?
