Romney Cuts $425m From His State's Budget

Summary


Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney today cut $425 million in spending from the state's $25.7 billion budget, escalating a battle with the Democratic-controlled Legislature.

The cuts include $388 million in items the governor had vetoed earlier this year and lawmakers voted to put back in the budget. Romney last month also vetoed the Legislature's plan to tap $450 million of the state's $2.1 billion in reserves to help finance the fiscal 2007 budget, which was originally passed in June.
