SALT LAKE CITY -- A funk in the weather has created a series of potentially dangerous conditions throughout the weekend, including a high risk of avalanches and low air quality.

Officials have cautioned skiers and mountain trekkers to be aware of their surroundings and check the latest conditions at utahavalanchecenter.org, as lower layers of snow continue to become weaker -- enough to produce human-triggered avalanches. Danger is rated as "considerable," which isn't the highest level, but it is when the most accidents occur, according to the Utah Avalanche Center's Brett Kobernik.
