Restore Current Building

Summary

In a meeting with Mayor Ralph Becker on May 20, I learned that the building now occupied by the police and fire department headquarters is regarded as a historically important example of mid- 20th-century architecture. If that is true, a way must be found to protect and preserve the iconic structure on the corner of 200 South and 300 East.

Salt Lake City officials should step away from the plan to build a new police and fire department headquarters next to the library. A far better plan would be to move the police and fire department offices to some temporary location while the building they now occupy is rehabilitated and remodeled to serve their 21st-century purposes.
