FARMINGTON -- Nine years after her son was mowed down by gunfire, Rea Whicker finally has gotten an end of sorts to the long, sorrowful saga of the Motel 6 murder that killed Matthew John Whicker at age 30 and changed countless other lives.

Elliott Rashad Harper, 26, the last defendant in the case, was sentenced Thursday to zero-to-five years in prison after pleading guilty to third-degree felony criminal homicide by assault. He took part in a plea bargain but still maintains his innocence.
