CHICAGO -- Contrary to conventional wisdom, a new study shows that eating less fat late in life failed to lower the risk of cancer and heart disease among older women.

But the study of 48,835 women should not be interpreted as a license to "rush out to the nearest fast-food store and stuff your face," as one researcher put it.
