LAYTON -- Brian Anders has a firm handshake. He walks with chest out and thumbs in, sits upright and says "ma'am" and "sir." And in addition to high graduation honors and a scholarship to Texas A&M, when he graduates he will also be prepared to take and pass the first of two tests for getting a personal pilot's license.

He is a member of a cream-of-the-crop class at Northridge High School in Davis School District that prepares students to get their private pilot ground school certificate.

Ready to Take Off: Students Get a Start On Pilot Training

Northridge is one of only two schools in the state that offer such a class through the Junior ROTC program. The other class is at Clearfield High. Both are taught by Capt. Larry Wineteer, who retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service.
