Put Books On Christmas List
Books for babies and beginners:
Watch for board books (which can be wiped clean from jammy fingers!) with pages that turn easily. Toddlers like bright pictures with recognizable objects and people.A dozen companies publish quality beginning readers; stories with few words on a page and delightful story lines. Avoid cheap bindings and glitzy media-related books. Children get enough of those images on TV.-- "Knuffle Bunny" by Mo Willems (Hyperion). When a child's favorite bunny is put in a Laundromat and left behind, there is panic. Every child (and parent) will identify with the dilemma of a lost toy. Other favorites by Willems are "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" and "The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog."
