Summary
As a young person I attended many Utah Symphony concerts in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. That was the major cultural event in our community, and there were not many other similar events to attend. Now it is different. I have wondered for years how our population could sustain all the events that go on. We have symphony, ballet, opera, theater, traveling musical groups, and sports events. Many stay away because they cannot afford many of these choices. In addition, there are myriad other activities with our families, churches and schools that seek our attention. I certainly hope that our limited public and private resources will be used in a thoughtful way to preserve the cultural institutions we have grown to love.
