Panel Denies Bid to Divert Road Funds to Schools

Summary


A proposal to skim $17 million from city and county road money to help fund education has been initially denied by legislators.

The Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee gave preliminary to approval to a $114 million budget for B and C road funding, which is money used by local governments for roads that are not state- or federally owned. The budget included $17 million in sales and gas tax funds that Gov. Olene Walker has proposed shifting to education.
