OREM -- Putting aside pre-meet distractions, the favorites of Region 7 swimming jumped out to early leads in the first day of competition at the Region 7 meet Friday.

After waiting through a 45-minute delay caused by a faulty starting system, Orem's boys team put up 148 points in the eight events competed, enough for a 38-point lead over second-place Springville. On the girls side, Timpview piled up 141 points, with Springville trailing in second with 112 points.
