Nhl, Players Meet with Mediators

NEW YORK -- Representatives from the NHL and the players' association met with federal mediators in Washington on Sunday, just hours before a weekend deadline to save the season, The Associated Press has learned.

The meeting was arranged before Sunday at the request of the mediators, sources close to the negotiations told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. Neither commissioner Gary Bettman nor players' association executive director Bob Goodenow attended.
