Literary Footnotes: Workshops, Readings and Other Literary Events in Utah

The Salt Lake Community College Writing Center is hosting a workshop on "Writing for Change: Civic Writing." Learn the techniques of civic writing, such as letters to editors and public officials. Come with a concern; stay to write a letter with the help of CWC writing coaches. The workshop will be held Feb. 9 at the Day Riverside Library; March 16 at the Sprague Library; and April 17, at the Chapman Library. The workshops will take place from 6-9 p.m. all three days. There is no cost, however, registration is required online at www.slcc.edu/cwc or by calling 801-957-4992.

The King's English Bookshop, 1511 S. 1500 East, hosts journalist Steve Early, who will read from "Embedded With Organized Labor: Journalistic Reflections on the Class War at Home," Feb. 9, 7 p.m.; also author Tyler Volk will discuss his new book, "CO2 Rising: The World's Greatest Environmental Challenge," Feb. 11, 7 p.m.; author Robert Birkby will read from and sign "Mountain Madness," Feb. 12, 7 p.m. (801-484-9100).
