Summary

Interstate Bakeries Corp., the bankrupt maker of Hostess Twinkies and Wonder Bread, said Monday that it plans to eliminate 230 jobs in Indiana and Michigan as it tries to cut costs.

The consolidation at its Upper Midwest Profit Center will cost about $700,000, Kansas City-based Interstate Bakeries said in a statement. The plan, which needs bankruptcy court approval, is expected to be in effect by March 13, Interstate said. The company, which has operations in Salt Lake City and Ogden, has about 26,500 employees, said spokeswoman Sandra Sternberg of Sitrick and Co.
