Hurricane John Weakens — but Deluges Baja

Summary


Hurricane John weakened to a Category 1 storm with winds slowing to 75 miles per hour as it brought heavy rains to the Baja California Peninsula, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

The center of the storm was about 50 miles northwest of La Paz, Mexico, and moving northwest about 8 mph as of 11 a.m. local time, the Hurricane Center said. John is expected to continue losing strength as it moves up the east coast of Baja California.
