Summary
In this year of budget surplus, I would like to remind our Legislature and fellow citizens of a group of adults who are, in large part, forgotten when they turn 22: the intellectually and physically disabled. I have never read of these individuals' lives being discussed or even considered for services from a budget surplus. It seems they have been forgotten.
Because of federal laws, states are required to educate and offer services to disabled children through age 22. At age 22 all services stop. All there is are long days at home with nothing to do. They lose skills they were taught and become listless and unhappy. Many have no resources.
