Yes, Phil Cannon (Readers' Forum, Feb. 4), people should also be concerned about the needy while in pursuit of self-interest. While seeking for independence, if we have sufficient for ourselves or families, we should be willing to voluntarily give to those in need.
What I don't find in the teachings of Jesus Christ is the Democrat (liberal) program of compulsorily taking of someone's income to give to another class of people. The result is an "entitlement" attitude that becomes destructive to people. We should allow people the freedom to choose to do good, as the church does when asking members to voluntarily give to help the tsunami survivors.See the full content of this document
