Summary
In a recent editorial ("Potty-mouthed broadcasters," Feb. 28, 2004), the Deseret Morning News editorial staff condemned Howard Stern's and "Bubba the Love Sponge" radio shows for having little socially redeeming value while admitting that "we haven't actually listened to the shows."
Condemning things sight unseen is an all too common practice here in Utah -- and an intellectually sloppy one at that. As we see every day in your letters to the editor section, anyone can have an opinion. But few people can actually back them up with, say, facts. As professional opinion-havers, you should probably take the time to be at least a little familiar with the things you condemn and eschew easy intellectual shorthand.See the full content of this document
