If you're reading this, it's a fair bet medical science -- at some point -- has saved your life. The miracles of modern medicine are astounding. Now, researchers are on the verge of concocting antibodies that may knock out the flu -- Asian, swine, bird, Spanish and all strains in between.
The discovery is the brainchild of the Harvard Medical School, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Burnham Institute. Researchers claim they have apparently found the "Achilles heel" of influenza, the weak point that will bring it down for good. Much more study needs to be done, of course, but the implications are monumental. The next step will be tests on ferrets, then humans.
