First Shuttle Launch Since Tragedy Is Set

WASHINGTON -- NASA officials Friday set May 15 for launching the first space shuttle since the loss of Columbia two years ago, calling it realistic even though much work still had to be done.

William F. Readdy, NASA's associate administrator for space operations, said the Spaceflight Leadership Council at the agency set the date after touring shuttle preparations at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and meeting with several groups involved with returning the shuttles to flight.
