Summary


Brandt Neider (Readers' Forum, May 20) states that generalizations give understanding by letting us know that McDonald's is a restaurant. McDonald's being a restaurant is not a generalization. It is a fact. It is based in reality and can be proven. A generalization is attributing certain features to various groups based on an interaction with a small part of that group. Generalizations are harmful because they are usually negative.
