Elementary Students Given Antibiotics As Precaution

About 100 students in the first grade and morning kindergarten at a Salt Lake elementary school were given antibiotics Monday as a precaution after a child was hospitalized over the weekend with Neisseria meningococcal disease.

The child was hospitalized Saturday at Primary Children's Medical Center where she was in good condition and was likely to be released Monday afternoon, according to Bonnie Midget, Primary spokeswoman. The hospital notified the Salt Lake Valley Health Department, which contacted the principal at Escalante Elementary School, Richard Aslett.
