Indonesia -- the country most seriously affected by the massive December 2004 Indian Ocean quake and tsunami -- has experienced multiple deadly earthquakes since 2000:

-- May 27, 2006: A magnitude-6.3 quake flattens homes and hotels near the ancient central city of Yogyakarta, killing more than 3,500 and injuring thousands more in the nation's worst disaster since the 2004 tsunami. Nearby, volcanic Mount Merapi is also threatening a major eruption.
