William Raspberry writes (Jan. 24) that recent polls show regular churchgoers are much less willing to compromise on social issues than they were 10 or 20 years ago. He marvels at this and thinks it bodes ill for the future of American politics.
Let's look at some facts. It seems to this more-than-occasional churchgoer that compromise has been a one-way street for most of the past generation.
