Summary
When I was in Africa in 1980 for the Deseret News, I visited Zimbabwe as part of our six-nation tour of the continent. At that time, it was still Northern Rhodesia, ruled by Britain. It was one of the nations where black insurgents were seeking to establish black majority rule after years of colonial rule.
Britain had finally acceded to the insurgents' demands, and elections were being held to elect a new black president. The two parties contesting for the seat were headed by Joshua Nkomo and Robert Mugabe. Mugabe won the presidency.See the full content of this document
