Summary
Dear Heloise: It seems like such a simple thing to change one's address, but really it was quite a chore remembering all the companies and places that would need our new address.
My husband and I started a list about two months before moving -- we kept it on a notepad near the phone. Every time we thought of a new one, we'd jot it down -- credit cards, doctors, retirement accounts, alumni groups, employers, etc. We ended up with a list of about 70 names and places we'd have to contact. Four weeks before moving, I started to contact them. Some were easy, as I could do the change via e-mail. Others had specific forms that needed to be filled out, some wanted letters, and others could be done with a simple phone call.See the full content of this document

Changing Address Is Chore
All in all, it was a major chore, and one I'm glad I started well in advance.
