Can't Wait Until Election, Mudslinging Are Over

I'm looking forward to the elections on so many levels I can hardly believe it. And there's no way I want to vote early this time, although I usually find convenience very appealing. I'll be standing in line on Election Day because, as a friend said at lunch this week, I want to be there among other Americans who are participating in the making of history and cast my vote.

It's going to be historic not only because we'll either have a vice president who's a woman or a president who's black, but also because, for the first time in my nearly half-century, turnout is predicted to be excellent. I've been going to the polls my entire life -- my parents were both blind, and even as a young child I helped them cast their ballots. I can't remember the last time I saw an election where turnout was even very good.
