HOT SPRINGS, Va. -- BYU's men's golf team, ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation, is in second place after the first day of the NCAA Golf Championships.
With strong, swirling winds and U.S. Open-length rough, BYU hung tough on the first day of the tournament at the 6,679-yard, par-70 Cascades Golf Course. The Cougars finished at even par (280), just one shot behind leader California and one stroke ahead of third- place Texas Christian (281). Auburn and Kentucky (283) rounded out the top five.
