A device used to give the U.S. Army bomb training ended up in a real-life scenario for the Salt Lake City Police Department's bomb squad Wednesday.

About 1 p.m. mechanics at a gas station at 1300 East and 900 South were working on a van owned by the U.S. Army when they noticed a suspicious looking device about the size of a soda can under the hood in the engine compartment, said Salt Lake City police detective Robin Snyder.
