Summary


PROVO -- Five freshmen out of a small recruiting class of 13 ended up making significant contributions right out of the chute for BYU in 2003.

The Cougars relied heavily on freshman offensive guard Ofa Mohetau; freshman John Beck, fresh off an LDS mission to Portugal; and another returning missionary, tight end Phillip Niu. To end the season, freshman linebacker David Nixon started five games and another freshman, Lone Peak's Matt Ah You, rotated in at linebacker.
