Summary
I am a firm believer in the saying that an informed citizenry is the best defense against government excesses. In keeping with that, I recommend we citizens read both the "My View" piece by George Neckel (March 26) and the excellent column by Jay Evensen (March 21) in the Deseret Morning News. We need to understand both sides of issues that impact our lives.
And it helps if those expressing opinions are rational and believable, as is the case with both of the above mentioned articles. As an example of how not to do it, statements by many of the animal rights activists are difficult to believe. The same tired rhetoric is endlessly repeated. I can poke holes in many of their arguments, which creates doubt in my mind about everything they state as fact.
