Summary
The statement made in the Valerie Phillips article, "Wild about salmon," reads: "If a salmon is labeled from Alaska, then it's wild, as the state has banned seafood farming." This is absolutely incorrect. Salmon farming is actively practiced in Alaska, although under the name "Ocean Ranching"; 1.5 billion salmon are raised in hatcheries and net pens in Alaska, which provide up to 25 percent of the salmon that Alaska catches annually. This is seafood farming, plain and simple.
