Afc Previews

NEW ENGLAND (14-2, 3-0 playoffs)

OPTIMISTIC: Can become first team to win three consecutive Super Bowls and four out of five. Super Bowl MVP Deion Branch leads Tom Brady's WR group that also includes David Givens, Troy Brown and newcomer David Terrell. Young DL is solid, led by two-time All-Pro Richard Seymour. Aggressive S Rodney Harrison leads defense. Coach Bill Belichick keeps reminding players they've done nothing yet this season. Addition of Terrell, LBs Chad Brown and Monty Beisel and several experienced DBs helps. First-round draft pick OL Logan Mankins has had strong training camp.

PESSIMISTIC: Patriots lost both coordinators: Charlie Weis (offense) became head coach at Notre Dame and Romeo Crennel (defense) took over Cleveland Browns. Former DBs coach Eric Mangini replaces Crennel, but no offensive coordinator has been hired and Belichick will have greater input.
