Summary
I am completely horrified by the Substitute House Bill 235 (Abortion Law Revisions). There are many reasons for my dismay, but I will list two points. First, American history demonstrates that abortion bans only prevent medically safe terminations. Second, recent state history shows that legislators have little anxiety about spending millions in taxpayer dollars to defend unconstitutional bills. Legislative fiscal irresponsibility ultimately penalizes the people of Utah, both in dollar terms and in social terms, because of all the other programs that have their funds cut to pay for the legal bills.
