2 Wrongs Don't Make a Right

Summary

It is a stunning leap in logic to view Karl Rove's alleged actions in the context of what Sandy Berger did (stealing documents), as Frank Overfelt does in his letter (Readers' Forum, July 17). The Democrats' and the media's hypocrisy regarding Karl Rove in no way changes what Rove may or may not have done.

This attitude illustrates a larger issue facing us today. We do not judge people using absolutes of right and wrong but rather by the political ideology of the person who committed the act. Guilt or innocence, as viewed by the public, is a function of party affiliation. As far as Rove and Berger are concerned, my mother taught me that two wrongs do not make a right. If Rove did commit a crime, to imply that he should be left alone because someone in the Democratic Party also committed a crime is as silly an idea as I have ever heard.
